How Wedding Venues Can Offer Couples a Wedding Website (UK)

8 min read

A UK wedding venue can give couples a wedding website in three ways: recommend a free builder and leave them to it, build a page for each couple yourself, or put a builder account in the wedding pack so every couple builds their own site with your details already on it. The third gives couples the most and costs your team the least. Ode Business, from Ode Events, does it from £9.99 a month for unlimited couples. This guide covers all three, what to put on the page, and the photo album.

Why a venue should care about the couple’s website

Every wedding produces the same questions: where to park, which station is nearest, whether there are rooms on site, what time the bar closes, whether confetti is allowed, how to get a taxi home. Some reach the couple, some reach your events team, and all of them have answers you already know. A wedding website is where those answers live, and it’s the page every guest opens to RSVP, months before they arrive.

That makes it valuable to you in two ways. Fewer of the same questions land in your inbox, and your venue (its photos, its rooms, its directions) is on every guest’s phone long before the day. Some of those guests will be planning weddings of their own.

Three ways to do it

1. Recommend a free builder

The easiest option is a line in your welcome pack: “you might like to make a wedding website on Hitched, Joy or Zola”. It costs nothing and couples get a decent free product. But you don’t know whether they made one, your directions and room-booking details are only there if the couple copies them across, and your team can’t help if they get stuck. Free builders are also funded by something: Hitched by suppliers paying to be listed (other venues included), Zola and Joy largely by registries. Our UK builder roundup sets out how each one makes its money.

2. Build a page for each couple yourself

Some venues keep a wedding page per couple on their own website. It looks polished, but it’s staff time for every booking, it rarely includes RSVPs or meal choices, and every change the couple wants is an email to you.

3. Put a builder account in the pack

A business account lets you create an event for each booking and invite the couple to it. They build the site themselves, with RSVPs, meal choices, seating and the rest, while a template you set up once puts your venue’s details on every page from the start. Your team can open any event if a couple asks for help, and otherwise nothing needs you. This is what Ode Business for venues is.

What to put in a venue template

A template is a wedding page with your details filled in and the couple’s left blank. The useful parts, in roughly the order guests look for them:

  • Getting here. The postcode that actually works in a sat nav, parking and how many spaces, the nearest station, and two local taxi numbers that answer late.
  • Staying over. Your rooms and how to book them, the booking code for any room block, and two or three places nearby at different prices.
  • The shape of the day. The running order that works in your rooms: ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, evening, last orders and carriages. The couple adjusts the times.
  • House rules guests ask about. Confetti, candles, children, dogs, accessibility and step-free routes, and the dress code for the grounds if there is one.
  • Suppliers you recommend. If you have a list, this is where couples and their guests will actually see it.
  • A section about the venue. Your best photos and a few lines. It’s the couple’s page, so keep it short.

New events copy the template, so a couple who books in March opens a page that already answers half their guests’ questions. They can edit or delete anything.

The photo album: include it, sell it or leave it

Guest photo albums are where the money is, for you or for the couple. Ode Business lets you choose per wedding. Add an album from your account and it costs you photos: a Standard album of 300 photos is £9 bought as top-ups, or less from a monthly pool. A couple buying the same album from us directly pays £35, and 1,000 photos cost them £65 against £30 for you. So you can fold it into the pack, list it as an extra at the price a couple would pay us and keep the difference, or add nothing and let couples buy their own, which costs you nothing. Nothing on the couple’s page shows what you paid.

What it costs

  • Essential, £9.99 a month: websites for every couple on one login. Albums are bought as top-ups when you want one.
  • Pro, £49 a month: adds a pool of 3,000 photos a month and 3 seats for your team.
  • Max, £99 a month: a pool of 10,000 photos a month and unlimited seats.

Every plan has unlimited events, annual billing at 10 months’ price, and a 30-day free trial with up to 3 events. Billing never takes a couple’s site down: if you stop, every published site stays up and every album runs its course.

What it isn’t

Ode Business is the couple’s side of the wedding, not your back office. It doesn’t handle enquiries, contracts, invoices or your own floor plans, so keep whatever you use for those. Guest pages carry the couple’s colours and a small Ode mark rather than your branding; your presence is the venue section in the template. And couples’ data follows our usual rules: replies are deleted 90 days after the wedding, photos when the album closes, and the event a year after the wedding.

Setting it up in an afternoon

  1. Start the trial and name the account after your venue.
  2. Create a template and fill in the venue sections: getting here, staying over, the day, house rules, suppliers.
  3. For the next couple who books, create their event from the template and invite them by email from the account page.
  4. Add a line to your booking confirmation: “Your wedding website is ready for you: we’ve sent the invitation to your email.”
  5. Decide what you’ll do about the album, and put it on your rate card.

The account guide walks through each step, and the Ode Business page has the plans side by side.
